Luciano Blotta - Biography
Emmy Nominated filmmaker Luciano Blotta has shot content for HBO, Netflix, PBS, CNN, BBC, Animal Planet, Bravo, UK Channel 4, Red Bull Media and may other networks while living and working in Los Angeles for the last 15 years. Blotta started his career working in the camera departments of filmmaking masters like John Woo, Steven Soderbergh, Ron Howard and Steven Spielberg, learning invaluable technical and aesthetic skills that he would soon put to practice in his own filmmaking.
RISEUP Blotta’s feature-length debut film about the Jamaican underground music scene, won the AFI/Discovery SilverDocs Award for Best Music Documentary and has screened at NYC’s Lincoln Center, the Los Angeles Grammy Museum, MOCA, USC Film School and many other prestigious institutions after initially airing on the BBC’s, PBS, CBC and many other networks worldwide.
Since then, Blotta has shot various film and documentary projects, like the Netflix series ROTTEN, The Netflix documentary ASHLEY MADISON, Academy Award Winner David Guggenheim’s TEACH and the CNN series THE HUNT, for which Luciano received the EMMY nomination in Cinematography.
He continues to live in Los Angeles, where he has recently been trusted to shoot THE KLEPTOCRATS, a feature documentary about the Malaysian money scandal involving the making of the film ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ and the first scenes for ONCE WERE BROTHERS, the documentary about the life of musician ‘Robbie Robertson (The Band). Other music content includes all the videos and short documentaries for Jamaican bluesman Brushy One String, which have been viewed over 50 million times on YouTube.
For OVUM, Blotta’s most recent narrative film, he decided to go back to his native Argentina and pay homage to its expansive coast, where he spent his summers growing and fishing with his grandfather. The film debuted in the film festival circuit winning Grand Jury Prizes and over 15 international awards at various film festivals worldwide.
Blotta is currently focusing on a health and wellness documentary series, with the Ozone film serving as the first chapter.
